TENP Models Celebrate Runners-Up Finish at National Mr. and Miss TVET Contest

On Thursday, March 19, a team of student models from The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) paid a courtesy call to the institution’s Chief Principal Dr Charles Koech following their remarkable performance at the recently concluded Mr. and Miss TVET contest held at Kericho Township Technical and Vocational College in Kericho County.

The TENP delegation, which included Mr. TENP, Miss TENP, and Mr. Culture, proudly returned as runners-up in the prestigious national competition that brought together participants from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country. The visit to the Chief Principal’s office was marked by a sense of pride and celebration, as the models were warmly received and congratulated for their outstanding achievement. Accompanying the students were the Cabinet Secretary (student Union) in charge of Sports and Recreation, the Dean of Trainees, as well as Deputy Deans of Trainees, all of whom commended the team for their discipline, teamwork, and commitment throughout the competition.

Speaking during the meeting, the Chief Principal expressed immense pride in the students, noting that their success reflects the institution’s dedication to nurturing well-rounded graduates. He highlighted that while TENP is widely recognized for its excellence in technical and vocational training, co-curricular activities such as modeling, performing arts, and cultural showcases are equally vital in shaping confident, innovative, and socially aware individuals.

“This achievement is a testament to your hard work, resilience, and the spirit of excellence that defines our institution,” the Chief Principal remarked. “You have not only represented TENP but also demonstrated the immense potential that exists within the TVET sector.”

The Mr. and Miss TVET contest in Kericho Township TVC featured a series of competitive segments, including runway presentations, talent showcases, cultural displays, and question-and-answer sessions designed to test participants’ critical thinking and communication skills. The TENP team distinguished itself in several of these categories, particularly in cultural expression and stage presence, earning admiration from judges and fellow contestants alike.

Mr. Culture, one of the standout performers, captivated audiences with a vibrant display of Kenya’s rich cultural diversity, while Mr. and Miss TENP impressed with their confidence, eloquence, and creativity on stage. Their combined efforts ultimately secured the runners-up position, placing TENP among the top-performing institutions in the national event.

The Dean of Trainees, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the importance of such platforms in complementing academic pursuits. He noted that participation in national competitions helps students build self-confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of identity, all of which are essential in today’s dynamic world.

“Our students have proven that talent and technical training can go hand in hand,” the Dean said. “We remain committed to supporting and nurturing such talents to ensure our trainees excel both inside and outside the classroom.”

The CS for Sports and Recreation also praised the team for their determination and teamwork, pointing out that their journey to the national stage required rigorous preparation, discipline, and collaboration.
